North Kawartha Chandos Councillor Barry Rand ready to energize Deputy Reeve job.

Today Barry Rand officially announces his commitment to
North Kawartha taxpayers and residents.  In standing for the position of Deputy Reeve, Rand invites local voters to join him in a new vision for the Township of North Kawartha.

What is this vision?  "A vision which uses consultation and involvement, one that moves our township towards a healthier and more vibrant community," says
Rand.  A believer in participatory democracy, Rand would involve local ratepayers, in a meaningful way for the next four years, accessing the community's expertise to build a local economic development strategy.  "Sustainable growth is more than new buildings," adds Rand.

Furthermore,
Rand knows North Kawartha needs a strategic plan developed at the beginning of the new term with input from all parts of the community.  His plan would include a review of existing services to ensure that they meet the needs of all taxpayers.  Rand believes that he is accountable to the people who pay the bills: the taxpayers.

He is responsive and responsible, having learned "the ropes" in this past term.  During his tenure on Council, he demonstrated fairness and respect and was willing to listen to all delegations that came before Council.  He supported local initiatives, particularly the programs for children and youth. He improved wage and benefit levels for Library employees.
Rand's attitude is inclusive and honouring of volunteers.

In his capacity on Council, he was active at the provincial level in a collaborative effort to modify property assessment.  He spoke at the Queen's Park press conference in support of the Homestead Act.  He is competent participating at all levels of government and will bring a new level of energy to County Council as Deputy Reeve/County Councillor.
Rand is retired after an active and successful 27 years as Professional Engineer and manager with several international companies, ultimately achieving the position of Vice-president and General Manager.  He is a permanent resident and participates on North Kawartha's Community Policing Committee, is a Library Board member, and has been a volunteer fire fighter and a Director of 4th Line Theatre.  Barry is married to Sally and both are active in their local community.  They are exceedingly proud of their first granddaughter Ruth, daughter of their son Morgan and Suzanne.  It only inspires them to work even harder for the future of all children and our community.  See www.barryrand.ca

I believe that I should be accountable to the people who pay the bills....you, the taxpayer.  In short, I am:

Responsive - I consider the needs of all taxpayers, and I insist on strong customer service for you.  That means that I will respond to your concerns, and I will work to achieve your satisfaction.

Responsible - I make fully informed decisions, and only agree to wise investments in our community.  That means that I want all of our actions to ensure  long term success for our Township - sustainable on a broad basis.

Future Issues - As Deputy Reeve I will bring new energy to many areas:

- Enlist knowledgeable and committed members of the community to be part of an Economic Development Committee, reporting to Council, to help us grow well

- Review Township services to ensure they meet the needs of our taxpayers, efficiently and effectively

- Develop a Strategic Plan with input from all parts of our community

- Actively support our volunteers, in ways that recognize their great value
